SAFETY TIPS
Please share these with your little ones

PLEASE REMEMBER ...

  • Your first and last name, address, phone number, and how to use the telephone.
  •
  • How to dial "0" for operator and if there is an emergency how to dial 911
  •
  • To go to the nearest checkout counter to ask for help if you become separated from the adult that took you shopping. Never go to the parking lot or approach other shoppers.
  •
  • That a stranger is someone you do not know, not necessarily someone you have never seen before.
  •
  • Never tell anyone over the telephone that you are home alone.
  •
  • Never open the door is you are home alone.
  •
  • To ask permission from your parent or guardian before you go into anyone's house or get into anyone's car.
  •
  • To tell if someone is following you or hanging around the place where you play.
  •
  • That adults do not usually ask children for directions or help. Never go near the car or adult, you should go tell.
  •
  • To yell "HELP", not scream if you need assistance. Yell, "This is NOT my mom/dad."
  •
  • Tell if someone offers you gifts or money or wants to take your picture.
  •
  • No one has the right to touch you on the private parts of your body or make you feel uncomfortable. You have the right to say "NO" and not obey, even to an adult.
  •
  • If you tell someone that you have been touched or feel uncomfortable about a situation and they don't believe you, you need to tell someone else and keep telling until someone believes you.
  •
  • An uncomfortable touch is NEVER the child's fault. If you ever receive an uncomfortable touch or feel confused or uncomfortable about a situation, it is always the adults fault.

    IMPORTANT INTERNET PRIVACY INFORMATION

I received the following information via email from another School Technology Coordinator in the district. It is very concerning to all of us at BES as teachers and parents. I tried it and it worked perfectly. Please read the following exert from email and follow the instructions to safeguard your family.

    Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am forwarding this very important message to you. The following information needs to get relayed to everyone in our state--- particularly parents/guardians of children . As you will readily see this has major child safety and home security implications.

The Kentucky Crime Prevention Coalition (KCPC) has asked the Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) to forward the following IMPORTANT information. Google, an Internet search engine, has recently implemented a new feature where you can type in a telephone number, hit search and a detailed map will be given to the residence of the telephone number. KCPC and KCSS strongly recommend that you follow these instructions and forward to everyone you know. Below, you will find more detailed information about this new feature that is available at www.google.com along with directions on how to prevent this from happening to you. Please pass this information on to parents, educators and anyone who would like to protect their privacy and themselves.

Google has implemented a new feature where you can type someone's
telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be
given a map to their house.

Think about it--if a child, single person, or anyone gives out
his/her phone number, someone can actually look it up and find out
where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious and alarming.
This is not a hoax--Yahoo! Maps and MapQuest will actually put a
star on your house on your street.

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to
www.google.com and type your phone number in the search bar with
dashes (i.e.555-555-1212) and hit enter. If your phone number is
unlisted, it should not be mapped.

If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private
information, simply click on the telephone icon to the left
of your phone number. You will see
a link where you are allowed to remove yourself.
